As everybody can see on this blog - I do podcasts again and since yesterday I am thinking about how to organize it the best way. I want to share my considerations with you and feel free to give me any advises, because you are the ones, who will be affected by it.
Jingles and the structure
First of all: do you really like this kind of podcast with professional jingles at the beginning and the end? Do you like it if a podcast has different chapters with different topics and a strict structure? I must admit that I of course prefer to do podcast without jingles and a strict structure, because it’s just less work
The best case is, that I don’t need to cut anything.
I am podcasting right now with my iPod Nano 3G and a mic for it from Belkin and I really like this setup, because it is so small and flexible. I also like it very much if you hear background noises and if it’s not a clean and silent environment, so that it sounds like in a studio.
I of course have Garageband and I of course know, that from time to time I will have to cut podcasts and I also found this jingle library (I already knew 75% of the jingles, from other podcast I listen to - now I know where you all have got your jingles from), but I think - as less work as more podcast I will do.
Languages and different formats
The next problem is of course the language thing. I will do podcast both in English and in German. Now I am again thinking about different RSS feeds. Should I do maybe three? One for German only, one for English only and one for both?
Question to German listeners: I would assume, that you would always subscribe both, wouldn’t you?
Question to English speaking listeners: Would you subscribe to all podcast and just skip the German episodes if they are marked. Or would you prefer to have a separate feed for English only?
And then the format. What I will prolly do quite a lot in the future are interviews and I also like to just record quick thoughts and ideas to publish them. Should I also separate this two different formats in different RSS feeds? Again three feeds would be possible: talks only, thoughts only and of course both.
I think the big question in both cases is: is skipping a problem for you and will you maybe even unsubscribe if you have to skip to much stuff? If yes I would have to separate it - if not - I could keep it simple and keep going with just one RSS feed for everything I do.
It’s up to you - please give me feedback!
